Airport History

Waco Regional Airport (ACT) has served the Central Texas region for more than 75 years, evolving from a military training installation into a vital component of the area's transportation infrastructure. Originally established in 1942 as Waco Army Air Field, the facility was constructed by the U.S. Army Air Forces to train pilots during World War II.

Following the war, the airfield was declared surplus and transferred to the City of Waco, which developed the property into a public-use airport. Over the decades, the airport has expanded its facilities and capabilities to support commercial airline service, general aviation, corporate aviation, military operations, flight training, and other aviation-related activities.

Conveniently located near Interstate 35, Waco Regional Airport serves as an accessible gateway to the City of Waco and the surrounding communities. The airport plays a significant role in supporting regional commerce, tourism, emergency response, and economic development by connecting Central Texas to the national air transportation system.
